Meet the Author — Elena Grace Onstad
Elena Grace Onstad is the pen name of Donna Buys, an award-winning nonfiction writer and author of Adventures With God: How He Pursued Me When I Ran.
Donna spent more than 30 years working in publishing and journalism. Her articles appeared in Glamour, Cosmopolitan, Family Circle, and numerous medical and travel publications. She also founded a publishing company specializing in medical and legal newsletters, which she sold in 1995.
A graduate of the University of Colorado with a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing, Donna pursued additional studies in psychology and earned certificates in prayer counseling. She received the 2025 Goldie Award for Memoir.
Her Christian faith led her to participate in short-term mission work and women's mentoring ministry. She was inspired to write Adventures With God after hearing that younger women wanted to learn from the experiences and mistakes of older women.
Through her memoir, she hopes to encourage women searching for meaning, struggling with guilt or shame, or longing for a closer relationship with God.
She divides her time between Park City, Utah, and Carlsbad, California.
